Superbowl fun for kids and adults of all ages :)

I think I'm going to have my kids actually watch the game this year...maybe even invite a few friends over? or maybe watch up at the church?  I haven't decided yet...but whatever I end up doing I thought it'd be fun to "do it right" :)  If I want the kids to enjoy it and to have fun, I need to put together a few fun games and ideas that get them involved!  Because they know nothing about football, and even though I've watched many, many games (ever since I was little and my dad and grandfather placed friendly bets on the games :), I don't really care who wins.  If the Tarheels were playing that'd be a different story ;)  So, to make it fun for all of us, I've searched the internet and pinterest for some fun Superbowl Game idea for kids, tweens, youth...and adults like me who watch it for the commercials ;)

This first idea is just something I tweaked from an idea I saw on pinterest.  I didn't really like it so I came up with my own :)  Here is the breakdown:

Find a board game in your house that you can use - it can be anything that has a start and a finish...candyland, chutes and ladders, even monopoly would work.  This is a two player game (or two teams) - be fun to play with your spouse while you watch :).  Put 2 "men" or "markers" on the board - one to represent each team in the superbowl.  Pick who is going to be which team.  Then, you make up your own rules (or you can use mine found here...they're free :) for when you move forward, backwards, etc.  The good thing is, the team that is winning might not necessarily be one who wins this game! :)  Example: your team gets a first down - move forward 1; your team has to punt, the other player moves forward one; your team scores a touchdown, move forward 3...a field goal=2; your team gets a penalty, go back 1 space for every 5 yards; etc.  This is going to be fun :)  The hardest part will be paying attention :)

Another game I saw everywhere was a Bingo game.  They were pretty good, but all of the ones about commercials were from years past and probably not pertinent for this year.  I also saw some that had to do with football plays (sac, punt, field goal, etc) but I wanted one with commercials (and I wanted to use pictures for non-readers so I couldn't use the bingo websites that generate their own cards...) so I made my own!  It's a general one so it can be used for any year :)  I made 20 sheets with no pictures for those that can read, but I also made  5 cards but with pictures for the non-readers.

Of course, it wouldn't be the superbowl without snacks :)  I'm not going to list lots of ideas here because they are EVERYWHERE if you look on the internet :)  Instead, here's my favorite that I want to make with the kids - lends itself to being creative, it's yummy, can be sweet or salty and not too bad for you ;)

Fun game with bean bags mentioned here.  The rules...

• Football Bean Bag Toss. If you have enough room, inside or outside, mark out a small football field with masking tape, and be sure to mark the yardage since it will be necessary for scoring the game. Divide your guests into two teams and have them take turns tossing bean bags onto the other team's side of the field. Keep score of the yardage points where the bags land, with a touchdown scoring 0 points. The team with the lowest yardage wins.

• Don't say "football" game. At the beginning of halftime, give your guests small paper footballs to stick onto their chests with double-sided tape. Tell everyone they're not allowed to say the word "football" while in conversation during halftime. If a guest hears someone use the word, they can take the football from the offending party. The person who collects the most footballs is the winner.

"This is a classic game to playplay as a Super Bowl Party Game. This game goes like this, for example I am the person who is holding the cup, I am going to put a dollar in it and then will say touch down and for each play that is not a touch down, the cups gets passed on and every guest is going to add a dollar in it. The guest who is holding the cup sees the touch down, then that individual is going to be the winner and is going to keep the cash. Now that guest is going to add a dollar and going to pass on the cup with his command."

Well, there you go.  A few fun little games to play with the kiddos while watching the game (or, with the adults that only care about the commercials...like me ;)
